KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.

. The annual statutory meeting of the Kairanga County Council was held at Palmerston on Wednesday. Present; Councillors Bryant, Voss, Moody. Mayo, Anderson, Collis, Wilsher, and 0 Loughlin. ■ Councillor Moody was elected chairman. Tlio retiring chairman, Councillor Yoss, who had filled the position for three years, thanked. councillors for their courtesy and assistance- during the time ho had hold office. The secretary of the Palmerston Hospital Board wrote that the number of patients admitted to tho hospital from the Kairanga County for the year ended March 31 last was 63. Councillor O'Loughlin said this amounted— based on the sum paid to tljp, hospital by tho county—to about £100 per patient, which, he considered rather-ex-pensive. A letter was read from tho Public Works Department that the Manawatu Gorge Road was now open for" traffic, and that the Government did not propose to spend any more money upon it.- Tho road was vested in tho Kairanga and Pahiatua County Councils, and- those bodies would now have io maintain it. —It was resolved. to approach the Pahiatua County Council, with the object of joining in the ippointment of a permanent man- to look after the road and keep it in repair. Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., wrote that no sum had been placed on the Public Works Estimates for the Palmerston to Pahiatua Road, and asking for information as to-what the application had been made for.—lt was decided to inform Mr. Field that the PalmerstonPahiatuaEoad was the best and safest route between the two coasts. Owing to the heavy stock traffic along tho road, it needed re-forming, and portions required fencing, and assistance was greatly needed to keep tlio road iiTpr* per repair. ■ ■ ■.
