A : Picton .Wedding..-. v< A■ -, very, ; pretty wedding was celebrated :on Tuesday afternoon in Holy Trinity -Church, Picton, ' when Miss Eileen Stdrey, second daughter. of Mr. . and Mrs. B. A. The chancel was,■:' artistically decorated with bridal roses and maidenhair fern; '. Tho .'bride,' who -was given away, by; her.;father, wore'a beautiful dress of ivory char meuse satin, .;trimmed with lace on.the corsage, over a -yoke of tissue.' The.:veil, a family relic, wa-s surmounted by a coronet of orange blossoms. There were, four bridesmaids attending lier. Miss Miriam Storey (sister of. the-bride), who.wore a dress of ..pale pink chiffon taffetas, trimmed with. Paris lace, and insertion, and with a'pretty, vest of cream, chiffon. ..With this, she wore a hat'of- white chiffon trimmed with a wreath. of pale pink' hyacinths. Miss Bock (sister of the bridegroom),, who wore-.. dress.of pale'pink crepe , de chine',. with vest of tucked tulle and lace and white cliiffon hat ;triramed with pink hyacinths. Miss Minnie Kear (Greymouth), and. Miss E. Chambers, both wearing ■ dresses of white _' chiffon, taffetas, trimmed" with' insertion and :lace; and: whito: chiffon hats, with wreaths of-pink hyacinths-. The bride and bridesmaids" carried exquisite bouquets,' the.gifts of Mrs. G. -J. ! Riddell, of Cam House. The bridegroom was attended ..by' Mr. T.' Mitchell, of Blenheim, .as", best, man. ■ The bride's present was a .dressing case . and pair of-earrings,. set with diamonds and .pearls, and to-the bridesmaids -. were given gold bangles, set with diamonds and rubies. The'bride's' present to the bridegroom was a pair of; silver-backed military brushes. Mrs. Storey,' mother of tho bride, wore a black gown'braided with - narrow silk braid, relieved withcream, and a-champagne-coloured toque trimmed ■ with- ; the same coloured flowers; with black., osprey. She carried a, bouquet of sweet ,peas ■ arid fern, presented by Miss Dart.-, A reception was held at Fay's, Hall, where over a hundred guests sat-'down to tho wedding "breakfast. : The usual toasts-were' proposed.and 'responded to, and epeeches conveying congratulation and- good wishes made. A large, crowd of friends assembled'on.'tho wharf prior to the sailing of tho Patocna for Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Bock were accorded a most-hearty send off; .'.Mrs. Bock, wore » brown tailor-mado costume for;travel.ling, . beautifully ;, braided, with -brown silk, a toque "of pink and brown- French straw, trimmed • with pink roses and brown velvet. A meeting of the Society for the Protection of tho ■ Health of Women ■and Children was held in tho society's rooms yesterday, Mrs. A. R. Atkinson presiding. -There were present: Mesdames G. Ponsonby, J. R, Glassou, Knox Gilmcr.C. Izard, A. Hoby, A. A. Corngan, Glover, Ward, Miss E. B. Brown, Miss Holmes, and Misa, Coates. A case of children being in an undesirable home is to be further investigated and, if. necessary, reported. Cases in which wives and children have been left destitute and several other . matters were dealt with. Tho following, subscriptions were acknowledged . with thanks:—Messrs. Miss Wardell, the latter, vigorous in her attacks, gaining the advantage over her opponent. It is surprising that inoro women da' not go in for fencing; as the exercise is so very fascinating, .and'so much is gained from it. Miss Johnson, : for her decorative and illustrative work, land Mr. Clark' for his' elocutionary.gifts, are;well known to (Wellington people, so that it is hardly .necessary to say anything as to tho, merits of "the performance that they are.to give. ; The 'two-principal items of. the programme will be the 'Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam i and the Ode on .a Grecian Urn (Keats), .which Mr. Clark .will recite, and Mies Johnson- illustrate with moving figures. Most of us know (it would be almost impossible not to know, with all the Rubaiyats that are to bo seen in the book!shbp3)- the verses-of the old "Persian poet, and it will be interesting to see Miss Johnson's conception .of, tho .lines andtheir meaning." She has planned, some riotous colour' effects ■■ and some- , weird'shadow pictures, the whole- effect! ; swinging from the joy of life to its final extinguishing.- In, striking contrast to it will, bo tho Ode—calm, and white, and classic-:in :i its illustrations.* Both will bo! accompanied with music, 51'iss Brenda Stock playing for them.
