THE NCUTUAWA FLOCKS. MESSRS. M'GREGOR BROS., MASTER-TON. , Messrs. M'Gregor Bros., of Manaia, Masterton, are breeders of both purebred Lincoln and purebred Romnoy Marsli sheep, on "Ngutuawa" (meeting of the waters), a particularly wellkept farm of about olio thousand acres, situated- about three' miles from tho town. .■ Lincolns. Tho Lincoln flock was founded about twenty years ago by Mr. J. M'Gregor, senr., by the purchase of ewes bred by tho late E. Meredith, who was one of the keenest judges of sheep in tho. district, and also one of tho earliest breeders of Liiicolns in the. Wairarapa. Tho flock was registered by tho present owners, Messrs. D. and J.M'Grogor, junr., in ISOI, when more sheep wore bought- from 'Mr. Meredith. "Mr. M'Gregor, senr.j had bred-mainly for condition. Tho r.t:r.:t was a strong healthy sheep suitable for ing purposes. He did not show much nt the time: Later the •demand came •for a better woolled sheep, and this added to show ring examples made the firm give ■ attention to wool, which tho very strong frame and constitution of tho sheep rendered an easy task. Some- very good stock was got from Mr. Bland Rayncr, by the champion' Waingawa I, whose sons sold at 20 guineas each, and whose descendantswere of siicli service to Messrs. M'Grc-' gor Bros', in further strengthening their very fine flock. Regarding sheep-breeding . generally, Mr. D. 'M'Gregor, junr., has some very pronounced opinions, which,. however, aro shared by several of our most prominent Wairarapa sheep-owners.
