THE GROWTH OF THE WAIRARAPA.
\ Borne idea is given in the following pages; of the development of the Wairatapa, with a reference . also to somemarks of industrial progress which havo been received in the Bush districts. It is a far cry indeed to tho beginning of things as they were half a century or more ago in. the Wairarapa, and tho present 'prosperity of 'that.'■ district- is largely due to the daring enterprise of its early pioneers, followed in 'α-largo measure by equally, zealous industry-by succeeding generations. * . In every sense they are, the .direct 'stand-bys of the towns. The scientific breeding of sheep and cattle has many votaries' in tlie/Wairarapa,/aiid tho sheep arc- regarded as unexcelled for quality in any part. of. the Dominioii;' . . ;The following list,-showing the principal export items, per rail, from the, Wairarapa and Bush"--District , ' railway stations for tho year ended March 31, 1910, is interesting reading.
