Tho fixturo will bo played later in tho season. . lit is necessary to refer to the negligence of captains of teams iu not- hanxling in results to Mr. J. B. Ilea's A Grade.—'Wellington . II v. Hutt: This was nil expected victory for Hutt, the Cornell-AVard combination being too happy a one., for M'Coll and Salel;. They won both singles arid doubles, although the last-named players ran them to three* sets. Grant's conservatism was evidently too much fofllursthouso. • ' . ■ ■ .
With a weakened team through the absence of Brown, Wellington I had to play up to wiu against Ihiritai. Eller played well in .disposing of Wright, .. and, with Jeffrey, just managed to dispose of Naglo and Lewis, two sets straight. Salmond, took two of three'sets from jSTagle, and, with Isaacs—who lost very simply to Lewis, 1-.-6, O—C—decisively beat Wright and Jones, who should have done better, by G—l, G—3. Men's B Grade.—After' a great match, Trinity beat Lower Hutt, being at the end only live, games to the good. Had Hutt not had a weak spot in their sub-' stitute, the result may well have been different. As it.was, Crowes'beat Kirk, but had to go to three sets to do so, his play giving the latter little scope for his niceties. Correll and Purdy wero very evenly matched, as 'the figures show, G—3, 2—G, G—s. ' Swinburne lost to Clere, after a good match, at G—2, 4—;G, -I—G. Kirk, had his revenge on Crowes in the. doubles, and, with Purdy, won from the Trinity pair in two sets at 6—5. Swinburne and Jacobsen were run to three sets against Clero and Kennedy before winning at 3-6, G-4, 6-3; ' Brougham Hill I (with , a substitute) won from Victoria College .1. ' Parker, taking.first place in the Victoria College team,.was beaten by Sampson, G— i, G—l. Roberts and Marriner lost and won their matches respectively with Taylor and Kutherfurd,. Marriner having to : go to G—s in each set. Butcher, tho Brougham Hill junior, who played emergency, was worth his ■place, 'and ran Mansfield to three sets. With Marriner, ho was also successful in tho double. • . ■
In the Brougham Hill II match with Pctone, tho announced results wero amusing, Kean and Barton being debited with two losses in the doubles, as'if ono were not sufficient. Parkinson and Duncan won both singles and doublo for their .team; Austin won from Kean at G —l, o—4. In tho Andrews—Barton match, Andrews till the end could not quite size up Barton's strong back-hand, . and lost ■I—G, 2—C. Harley and Townsend in their doubles .won. comfortably, from Austin and Andrews. It is worthy of comment that in ono game in the first double in this match deuce was called ten times, tho result finally going against tho server, Kean.
C Grade—The match Trinity v. Lower llutt was not, as the scorcs would indicate, a runaway. Lower llutt. had to default in two matches owing to Duvie not turning up. through a misunderstanding. Khandallali won their match from Victoria College* by games, sailing fairly close to tho wind, Richardson, winning by default, deciding the match. Tho two Brougham Hill teams cach woe their matches against respectively St. John's niid Muritai. In the latter the second team w.ero run fairly dose by Muritni, the match finishing 8 sets to 2, oho unfinished. -11 games to 37. Kilbirnic defeated Petone, Dun Can, for Petone, winning in both singles and doubles, each close matches. Ladies' Matches. matches in all grades wcro runaway events. The Thorndon fixture v. Wellington Unfinished at G to love, 72 games. to. 20. In- the B grade Miss Mack was the only lady to win her match for Brougham Hill II v. Petone; and for the Trinity team v.
