BUTCHERS' PICNIC.
The butchers of Wellington held their annual picnic at Day's Bay yesterday. The day was observed as a close holiday by the trade, and the fine weather induced a large crowd to cross in the ferry boats to the Bay. Including friends and members of tiie union, there was an attendance of about 300. An excellent dinner was provided, after which a sports programme was carried out, and a nuriiber of games added to the enjoyment. The ovents on the sports programme drew large entries, and ivere keenly contested. Tlie following is a list of the winners of the principal events: — Riders' Out raco —P. Jones and Mrs. Wooller. I;'M. M'Keuzio and Mrs. SutclifTe, 2. Grand handicap, 100yds.—H. Hunt, 1; J. Symonds, 2; H. "Boys,. 3. Pick-a-back , race—D. Morris and J. Cnrtmer, 1. Grand handicap, 120yds.—H. Hunt, t; C. Hcnshaw, 2. Single ladies' race.—Miss Pope, 1; Miss Aslier, 2; Miss Leclcie, 3. Musical items were contributed by Jupp's Band.
