Dalgety and Company, Limited (Palmerston North branch) report:—At' our Marton sale on Tuesday, we had' a fair yarding of cattle,- all of which' met with keen competition. Quotations':; — Small yearling Btecr6, £2 145.; .bulls, £2 12s* 6d.; 2£-year steers, £4125. 6d.; light fat cows, £5 2s. 6d.; empty,cows, £4 75.; dairy, cows, mostly backward calves, £4 155., £5, £5 10s.; £5 155., to £7 7s. 6d.; cows and calves, £5 ss.
. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonvillc sales as follows: —Wo offered a heavy yarding of primo sheep and cattle, 1 and • both sold readily. Bullocks, were a good deal easier than lato rates. Best bullocks, £10 2s. 6d.; medium bullocks, £9 IDs. to £9 12s. 6d.; lighter, £8 15s. to £9s.j vealers,' 225. 6d. to 275. '6d.; extra prime heavy wethers, 19s. 2d.; good •wethers, 16s. 6d.; medium wethers, 15s. Bd. to 165.; prime ewes, 15s. 3d.; medium ewes, I<B. 6d.; light, 13s. to 13s. 6d.; heavy woolly ewes, 235. 7d.; . medium, 21b. 7tl; prime lambs, 13s. ,6d. to 14s. sd.
< (By Telegraph.—Spcoial Correspondent.) Ghristchurch, November 23. At Addinglon live stockmarket there was a fairly large entry of all classes of stock, and a good attendance. Pat cattle were ca6ier, as were'also fat lambs. Btoro sheep sold well up to previous week's rates, and fat sheep showed, little, or no change.. Pigs were dull.of eale,'aiid thero was little demand for dairy and store cattle.
There was a. moderate entry of store sheep, and the quality was mostly inferior, exceptions being a few pens of ewes and forward wethers. Forward wethers sold well up to the previous week's prices, and x good ewes lambs met with fair competition,': but aged lines of ewca and culls wero easier, as were also small and low-conditioned two-tooths. Good and well grown forward two-tooth wethers made, 10s. 6d. to lis. 6d.; average, Bs. Bd. to 9s. 6d.: and "small and inferior, 75,. 6d. to Bs.; very forward four-tooth wethers, to 13s. 7d.; forward two-tooth ewes, lis. to lis. 7d.; small and inferior, Bs. 9d.; mixed .two-tooths (mostly wethers), 7s. Bd.; and a few inferior woolly hoggets, 9s. 3d.; gound-moutli ewes with lambs, 7s. 9d. to 93.; low-condi-tioned six and eight-tooth ewes with lambs, 63. lid.; aged,,6s. (all counted).
: There was an entry of 2454 fat lambs, or' 1000 more, than last week. The quality of the yarding was not so good, there being a considerable proportion of unfinished lambs, which farmers were unable to hold on account of shortage of feed. There. wa3 a good demand for export, and* prices for rprime- fatsi showed very- little • change, but medium' and unfinished ..lots were down' fully Is., per. head.. Freezing lambs made lis.- 6d. to 17s. 10d.; and butcher's lots 9s. 6d. to 17s. Bd., About 2000 were bought for freezing. - '• "•■ ' : The entry of fat sheep was not so large as last week, but there was a good proportion .of primo wethers and ewes, and all but -a few lots were shorn. • Exporters were operating freely in wethers, and pricfe for these were about on a par with last week's rates. Ewes also sold well tfil towards x the end of tlio sale, when they .'eased a little as butchers filled their requirements. The range of prices , was:— Woolly wethers, 2Cs. to 245. 6d.; shorn, vi4s. to 195.-'6 d.; woolly ewes, 18s. to 225.; shorn, 10s/t0.195. 4d.* ' -.The entry of.fat cattle totalled 249 and the bulk was of good.to prime quality. ;The\ demand, was, however, weaker, -and values declined 'about ls/>6d. per 1001b., .prime beef making 275. to 30S.'; medium,' 235.; to ; : 26e. 6d.; ond cow and inferior;-2Cs.' to 225. 6d. per 1001b.; steers made £7 17s.'6d. to £11; and extra to £12 55.; heifers, £5 ss. to £9 10s.;-and cows, £5.125. 6d. >to £8-.55.; veal calves.;brought 4s. 6d.-to/SOs.. ' A good yarding;of store cattlo was .made up principally'of '15 to 18 months' sorts and dry cows. There was not. much. demand; 'and prices; were easier.' 'Yearlings made .30s. and- 325;; 15 to 18 months, 425. 'to 485.; .two-year- steers, •' £3 :17s. - 6d.; itwo-year heifers, -£3:35. to £3; 155.;. 2£-year. steers, £5 55.; 3-year steers, £6 135.; 3-year.'heifers, £4 83.; and dry cows, 30s. to £3 155.; dairy cows made .£3 15s. to £8 15s. The entry of pigs was not eo large as the previous week, but as has been the case for several months a largo number of unfinished pign wero placed in the fat pens. There was only a fair demand for fats,and stores were very difficult to sell. Choppers sold up to £3 10s.: heavy baconers, 60s to 575.; lighter, 40s. to 48s. (equal to 4d. per lb.); large porkers. 28s. to 39g.; and smaller, 225. to 275. (equal to 4Jd. t-o 42d. per lb.); medium stores, 14s. to 215.; small, Bs. to 135.; weaners, 2s. to 6s.
