iBIG ENTRIES AMD FINE- WEATHER. The mnual.show of the.Egmont A'. and P. Association was opened at Hawera yesterday. . 'The weather was fine, and if it remains so for .to-day; there will ■ probably :be a record attendance for .people's day.. The entries ,are, numerically, a record. The-numbeTs for the last two years are as follow ' 1909. 1910.. : Cattle 257 - 290 ~ Sheep . 135 .. 219 .Pigs 35 23 ' ' ■ Horses 320 333 Competitions " 130 -121 Produce ....: 60 , .41 Home., industries ......... 410 - • 720 Dogs — 120 • Totals ................ 1347 . 1867 The dairy herd competition was won by Mr. Hdrkness, of Ngaire.' Mr. O'Donnell, of Inaha, was second. The judging'took place on Monday and Tuesday. There ' were three judges. A challenge trophy and seventoen guineas were offered in prizes. .The exhibitor was allowed to throw, out of his total herd 10 per cent. : over'and above 20 head, and 20 per cent, over 'and above 50 . head, in the presence of .the judges. ■ , ■ The test and weight of milk was taken ' during the last fourteen days prior to jiidgipg. English' Leicesters—Messrs. Lancaster '(Palmerston) and Brewer . (Waverley) ■divided the honours. Border Leicesters—ilr. Dowthwaite, of '•lordell. Roinney Marsli—Mr. Willis,- of Hawera, and, Mr. Best, of Normanby., . Shropshire—Mr- Corrigan, .of Hawera.- ' Southdown—Mr. Ellis, of Bulls. Sheep and freezers were a strong' class. ,Th'e pigs were moderate. The . draught horse classes and also the light' horses were'good. The champion ware ..was • shown by Mr. E. Short, of Waituna West (Miss Ivanhoe). . The principal jumping 'competition was won by Mr. Patterson, of Inaha. ■ ' In cheese for export (coloured), Dale-field-Company was first, and the prize, for trhitowas won by Greytown. Kaponga won the principal butter prize.
