[Br Glencoe.] is- stated that the enterprising 'Alvapmii owner,. ."Mr.-- Highdon," will shortly exploit England in fjear'cli of somo thoroughbred racing stock. 'I'hfs. seems to bo ii very promising venture. We havo seen how a.commoiv selling'plater in tho Old Country like Soil of tho Marsh cm* down tho best horses in Australia nt weight for age. Then -in Western Austrajia, Oi ; nml several other importations of- A. E. Cockram continue winning, and, lastly, an English-bred horse, 'Comedy King, has just won tlie 'Melbourne Cup. It-seems! that yaluablo horses '..call bopicked up for a;, m'ero song in Englmd, Thero aro those, for instance,, which arc pitted agaiust. a top-notcher 'in : tho' and which aro' always i'linTdng.. tho samo.old '"second and third." They aro very rarely, converted .into handicap htirscs,' but' aro sent to 'the ringside and sacrificed. ■ ' -
If Bobrikoff,"AJawa, Prince,Footo, and Comedy' King can pnly be got at-.their best in the autumn,.' the wcight-for-age 'events at the' Australian Jockey' Qlub's mcDtiug'ivill bo.well worth sw-iug.
. A privnto letter received in Auckland oil' Monday states, that the Now Zealand Cup winner, Downfall, was killed recently in Queensland. > Thp horse got ontanglcil ill a barb-wire fonce with fatal consctjuonccs,
f3omo weeks ago Dearest was reckoned' to be oiily a moderato animal at best, but she has "come on" very much lately, and seems likely ■to bo very useful. At present She -is spelling at Porirua, and nothing. definite is known as to when she will race again. It will be noticed that Master Soult's sister is not nominated at Ellerslie, so presumably she is-to get an extended rest. : .
It is reported that Bridge is likely to bo sent to Australia in tho autumn. Originally it was intended, that tho sou of Possible should contcst tho Caulficld and Melbourne Clips, and his owner actually cabled for him 'to be "font over, but lii's trainor, thought his chanco was too good to miss here, and he kept him at home, with what result is well known. ,
Tho New Zealauder Masonic was only' just beaten in the principal haiidicap. at tho W.illiamstown meeting last Wednesday week.
, Jockeys Oliver and' Young both failed to rido -a , winner, at-Danncvirko,. which, in tho light of their recent performances, is rather an unusual happening.

It occasionally happens that after a breeder'gets. rid. of a maTO .because of tho belief that she is not. worth a placo at his stud, some of her progeny attain fame. English exchanges . state that Mr. Neumann lias'had an experience of this, kind in connection ' with Repletion, dam of Verney. winner of the recent Cosarewitch. A couple of years ago Mr. Neumann sold Repletion, who was in foal to Gallinulo nt the. time, for the low price of 20gns. A colt, was the. result of Repletion's mating with tho sire named, so that the buyer was , certainly in luck in getting the dam of a Ccsarewitch .winner, and n foal by a 200gns. sire, all for 20gns. Repletion was bred in 1893, so tho probabilities favour her throwing a' few moro foals.
Regarding -tho alleged non-publication of tlio- final paymonls for the Feilding Stakes, Mr. Edmund Goodbehere, secretary of tho Feilding Jockey Club, writes to say that the horses loft in after final forfeit were handed to tho press and duly: published somo time ago.
