' Mr. Arthur Washer, . for many years on the clerical staff of the "Lyttelton Times," died suddenly on , Saturday-night about 11.30 pjn. It appears that Mr. "Washer went .to Mr. Marfell's:house on Moorhouse Avenue,, and, after having isome supper, he went into a bedroom to £ay goodbye to -a sick friend. He sat down on a chair,-and a few minutes after iell forward on to the floor dead. : Dr. 'Orchard, - who had. been attending Mr. Washer, states that death was caused ihy a clot of blood from a varicose vein (being blocked in- an artery. The late i -Mr. Washer took a , .keen- interest, in '' Eports ,of various' kinds, and especially SO jn athletics and boxing. :
