MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddcll, S.M.) Herbert Hunter, for whom Mr. P. Jackson appeared, pleaded not guilty to , a charge of stealing,' on October 21, a copper, valued at 155., tho property of one lVm. Ryan. After hearing, the evidence, the Magistrate held that accused must be convicted, and reminded him that, on account of a number of previous convictions ngninst him, he was liable to bo sent to the Supremo Court as an habitual criminal. A sentence of threo months'- imprisonment was imposed. John Adams was charged that, on November 18, ho stole from the dwellinghouse of David Sullivan a gold ring, i> pair of sleeve-links, a row of coral beads, and 30s. in money, tho property of Annie Sullivan. On tho application of ChiofDetcctive Broberg, accused was remanded until Wednesday next.

John Barbour pleaded guilty to # using bi\d language, and was fined .£3, in defiiult fourteen days' imprisonment. On a charge of drunkenness the fame accused was convicted and discharged. Samuel Cameron, on a charge of driinkennos.s irns fined 205., in default seven days imprisonment. Emma Crawford, alias Webster, for a similar offence, was dealt with in tho same manner. Two iirstoffending inebriates were each fined 55., with the alternative of twenty-four hours imprisonment.
