(Bs Hercdri.) November 23.—Karori A.A.C. Evening ' Meeting. December 10.—W.A.A.C. Spring Carnival (Basin Reserve). December 27. —Wairnrapa A.A.C. Meeting. January—Wellington Provincial Championships. , February.—Manawatu A.A.C. Meeting. Coming City Sports Meeting, Tho' W.A.A.C., as befitting its position as onr senior club,' is first in the field with notice •of a sports meeting. The slight friction with the Cricket; Association has been, satisfactorily disposed of, and tho gathering is scheduled for December 10, at the Basin Reserve. Tho events set down for competition aroi— 100 yards inter-Collego handicap, half-milo inter-College handicap, 220 yards public school handicap, 75 yards handicap (for club members only), 100 yards open handicap, 220 yards open handicap, 4-10 yards ppen handicap, 880 yards open, handicap, 1 mile open handicap (ladies' bracelet), ■li miles Steeplechase, 1 mile walk handicap, 220 yards hurdles handicap, polo vault (post'entries), high jump handicap, putting shot handicap (post entries), throwing hammer (post entries), long jump, Highland dancing (men), Highland' 1 dancing (girls), half-mile walk (boys). Entries close at tho usual points, and with the lion, secretary, ou December 3, _It will be noticed from tho foregoing list that tho popular ladies' bracelet event will be tlie mile run. This is a concession to the distance men, which should induce ■ a big field to saddle up, but it is one that will bo looked at sideways by the sprinting fraternity. However, as was pointed out when the innovation was decided upon, the short-event men have had a good innings, and tho event should do good by helping to strengthen up local distanco running. , _ A meeting of the Wellington- Centre has been called for Monday evening,, when matters in conniption with the- provincial championships, will be dealt with. By the way, a new face on the centre excoutive this .-season will be that of Mr. "Dorry" Leslie, who lins beeii appointed a delegate for the Manawatu Club. At the Basin Last Saturday. .. Since last week's notes appeared there liavo been two meetings for local athletes. _ At the Boy Scouts and Cadet gathering on Saturday four events—loo and 220 yards, one milo run, and hop, step, and jump handicaps—were disposed of, and on Wednesday the Port Nicholson A.A.C. and, the Thorndon Cycling Club combined in a successful evening meeting, the athletic, events being .120 yards, half-mile run, and one-mile walk. At the Saturday meeting F. Strickland made his first apeparance for tho season, and scored,, a first in tho short sprint, and a second in the furlong. He started off two yards from Hubbard in the hundred, | and won both heat and final —tho former in 11 l-ssec. and tho latter in 10 4-ssec. Proebstel, 7 yards, and Gapper (a consistentperformer), 3-i yards, filled the places in-this event. Coard, another dependable runner, starting of! tho 7 yards mark, gathered in the 220 yards event, Strickland, 3i yards, running second, as already stated, and Secretary Dunn, 4. yards, third. This race was run off in . one heat, nnd tho time, 23 4-ssec., was very creditable. It proved, two "solid" for Hubbard,, the scratch man. - The. mile brought out eight starters, and was run in eight laps. The field held a goodly proportion of harriers, two of whom—Curry and Rollo—filled tho first and second places, Gorb being third. Onco again did the veteran, L. M. Ml£ay, win the hop, step, and jump, covering 43ft. _2in. _ Hubbard also jumped well,, - and. in - his second jump cleared over 41ft., but tlie effort was ruled out as he landed with a hand behind his feet. With practice the long-jump champion will be formidablo in this event, which is jnow-iyell':worth' attention as it will figure ahiong' the championship contests at tho next New Zealand meeting. Wednesday Evening Events. _At tho. evening meeting on Wednesday Dunn won tho 120 yds. Handicap, off' 3yds., in 12 2-ssec —a. 6mart performance m which a following southerly breeze was a factor. Overehd, a steady place-get-ter, ran second, off syds., and Dawson third from virtual scratch (11yds.). This was a very well handicapped event, Mr. ■W. A. Pollock getting his men all in a bunch at the tape. Nine started, rather too many for ono heat without strings, as M. Robertson, a-Karon Club man, on tho 2yds. mark, had brought home to him by being completely upset en routo through unwisely colliding with a-bigger man. i i Tho half-mile provided a win for Eollo, off 40yds., and was followed homo closely by Pollock, off 35yds„ with tho scratch man third. Binnio put in a fino well-sus-tained sprint in the second lap, but had not made up enough ground in the first round, and could not get up, albeit he finished full of running. Six turned out for the walk, with Dave Cashman, the provincial champion, on scratch,, and P. Tracyj whoso maiden appearance it was, on 175 yds. At the gun the.limit man set out. at a terriffic clip, and for the. first lap actually gained on the field. He was never headed, and though tiring considerably at the business end, won a good race from Turner,. 55yd5.,; by five yards or so, Cashman being third some ten yards behind. Turner walked well, especially in the last lap, but Cashman has not as yet struck last year's form. As at Newtown Park on Saturday week, his arm and shoulder work was stiff; consequently his stride suffered in length, and his style generally in freedom.' 1 A Quondam "Milcr" Training. "Jack" Bradbury, the weli-known Wairarapa half-miler and miler of a few years back, has written to a friend in Wellington to tho effect that ho is in active training again, and that if ho can strike anything like his old-time form he intends competing at tho W.A.A.C. meeting on December 10. Bradbury, in form, would .be very acceptable at tho present juncture, as Wellington lacks a .first-class miler. ' "A Very Nico Point Opened Up." The following in, tho "Referee" from tho pen of Mr, R. Coombes, president of the A.A. Union of Australasia, . nicely sums up and' shows tho governing body's, attitudo towards a matter that is at present exercising tho minds of tho members of the N.Z.A.A. Council-.—"The Auckland Centre of tho N.Z.A.A.A., has appealed, or rather, desires to appeal, against the decision of its governing body in tho matter of D. Wilson's three miles figures of 20min. 58 4-ssec.'put up on the Auckland Domain on February 28 last. This performanco was put up,over threo miles on a heavy track, ana from press reports to hand at the time there wero spectators present, who doubted the fairness of the walker's gait—but these matters are outside the question. It seems that tho Auckland Centre has accepted . tho. figures, all tlio necessary certificates from various officials including tho-judge of walking, being in order. The centre then applied to tho Full Council in AVcllington for recognition of tho performance as a best on record for New Zealand, but tho Full Council declined to discuss tho matter on tho grounds that tho application had como too late, as all applications must bo hiado within GO days, and that period of time had elapsed. Tho matter of an appeal against this ruling was before, the executive of tlio A.A. Union at their last mooting, 'when it was determined that an .appeal could only bo made provided the Full Council of tlio N.Z.A.A.A. consented thereto. I cannot say, or oven indicate, what the Council will do, but, auyway, a very nico point is opened up. Tho A.A. Union executive base their opinion that they have jurisdiction on Section G(page 12) of tho "Objects" of tho union, despite what may bo said in tho ."Rules Bearing on Records" (pages 41, otc., of Iland-book). And it must be made clear that the union's executivo havo no desirewhatever to deal with tho case, although they realise that it is their duty to act if called upon. I will say no more on the subject of anpeal at present, as it may lie said to be sub jmlicc, but: I bold pronounced views on three miles under union rules in 20min. 58 4-sscc."
