TELEGRAPH MESSENCERS.

Sir,—l wish to call tho attention of your readers to what I consider ■ a S ra !T°. injustice to our, telegraph messengers.. Several of these m'essengers hnvo been .studying _ hard; for months past for the junior civil service examination, and are to sit for it next week. Applications have, been madd by the boys—arid by their tutor on their behalf—for leavo of absenco from work during tho examination. Tho Department has granted the exact hours which the examination will occupy for the various subjects, and refused any cessation from work during tho iriter--vening hours—thus: A boy going up for this examination will have to work-in the morning, and sit" for his examination in the afternoon and vico versa, as the case may bo. ' As ono who has sat for examinations, I say it is unfair to the, boys,' who will be physically tired, consequently will not bo .so -capablo mentally of passing in the different subjects. I, feel .certain that if • tho - attention of Sir , Joseph Ward , was drawn to these facts lie would see that justice was dono to tho boys in this matter. It is hard enough at any timo for messengers to find time to "swat" up for an examination. One would expect the heads of tho Department would grant tho ■ boys this respite, and thus give them tho fullest opportunity for passing their examination. Hoping, sir, that you will draw tho attention of tho upbh'c to this injustice —I"am, etc;,' •'< SYMPATHISER.
