SABBATH BREAKING,
Sir,—l. notico that the Presbyterian General , Assembly strongly deprecates golfing, gardening, picnicking, fishing, visiting, etc., on Sundays;' Well, sir,, tho workers must havo some, healthful recreation to counteract tho evil effects of tho daily grind "in couhting-hbuso and workshop. Wo are living in strenuous times, and .cliango of air and sceno is absolutely essential' to maintain no in a stato of health and efficiency. Ono half-holiday a -week is' not sufficient, especially in tho caso of suburbanites, who find most of their leisure time gone , when they, have reached their homes, had. a'meal, and changed'their attire. • Tho remedy for Sunday desecration is to i proclaim tho wholo Saturday a national holiday, so that tho masses could indulgo in all manner, of sports and feel in good condition for listening to sormons on . Sunday. ' Surely tho workers are entitled to one day's holiday every week after working fivo out of tho . seven., days. Tho landowners, who produce no wealth, but. merely exist to hold out their hands' for tho surplus earnings of Labour in the shapo of economic rent, havo a continuous holiday from January 1 to December 31, and yet the toilers (mental and manual)—tho backbone of tho country —are expected to be satisfied with ono half-holiday per week, and to go to church, on Sunday, instead of recruiting tlioir health and strength amid tho beauties of Nature. I havo indicated tho only sensible remedy for emjjty churches: let the clorgy .voice it with no uncertain sound, let-it .bo mado an election cry, and tho masses will, join in tho chorus.—l am, etc., TARI'OT BILLY.
