Trials were run on the Firth of Clyde on Wednesday, October 5, of the s.s. Rotorua, the new passenger steamer for tho New Zealand Shipping Company. Tho vessel has been built by Messrs. William Denny and Brothers, ,at Dumbarton, and oho left on her maiden .voyage from London to New Zealand on October 29, carrying a full complement of passengers. Tho trials were thoroughly successful, a mean &pecd of 15.77 knots being attained. Some guests of the builders joined tho ship for her trials, among those on board being Mr. G. King, Captain Lawson, Captain Jaggard, Mr. Peter Denny, Colonel L. Denny, Mr. D. Jackeon. At the luncheon, Mr. P. Denny proposed J'Tho New Ship," to which Mr. King replied. Mr. G. Mill, a visitor from New Zealand, said that thirtytwo years ago the New Zealand Shipping Company -began the trade in carrying frozen meat, and the-consequence was that the farmers of New Zealand were now in a better position than ever they, were before. It is announced that the Fifeshire will leave Lyttelton for Wellington to-morrow, and is due at Wellington on Monday morning eaTly, berthing at the Glasgow Wharf to receive Homeward cargo.
