CONCERTS.

In the field of vocal endeavour tho name of Mr. Spencer Lorraine, who has been working quietly in Wellington for nearly a year past, is not altogether unknown. He has discovered voices in hitherto silent places, and thoso that wero struggling have been helped to a realisation, of bettor things, ootfr_ in production and interpretation. As it is Mr. Lorraino's intention to take up his residence in Auckland shortly, he has been persuaded into giving a pupils' conterfc, which is to take place at tho Concert Chamber on Friday evening next. Towards' an .interesting programme, Mr.' Ernest Parke's will sing tho dramatic prologue to Leoncavello's opera, "I I'agliacci," and the Toreador's song from "Carmen." Hiss May Newman will sing that old-time favourite, "Piano, Piano," from "Dor Freiscliuts!," and Miss Fernandez will essay Cherubini's "0 Salutaris." Miss Rita Lj'ons is down for the popular "Bel Raggio" of pleasant memory; Mr. R. Orr will sing Korpay's temperamental soug, "Had a Horse," and Mr. Clifford O'Keefe, lately with Williamson's Grand Opera Company, and an old pupil, of . Mr, Lorraine's, will assist. In addition to this attractive list, Wellington will havo an opportunity of hearing Mr. Lorraine as an accompanist.

.Yt Woslev Hall, Taranaki Street, last night, tho Musical Helpers and tho "Wesley Debating Society gavo a concert, tho proceeds of which arc to go to tho Foreign Mission Fund. Tliero was a fairly largo audience, and tho entertainment was an undoubted success. Tho Musical Helpois ■ woio responsible for three contributions to tho programme, and all wero well received. Other items wero contributed by Misses Mueller, E. and M. Chapman, Jones, B. Luke, and M. Dix; and Messrs. H. B. Cooper, Bennett, Boyd, Wing, Gapper, Mountior, Jacobson and Meikle. Tho performance concluded with tho comedietta entitled "Silver Threads," in which the parts wore taken by Misses M. and F. Dix, B. Luke, and Harvey.
