GOLDSCHMIDT'S . ] - RAIL WELDING PROCESS | As Practised by j THE AUSTRALASIAN THERMIT CO.i j •LTD., 357 KENT STREET, SYDNEY, • 'l n.s.w. .; THE infringement of the Patent for ! "The Goldschmidt Thermit Process" j for the welding of metal pieces was the._ j subject .of an interesting suit in the Su-" . j preme Court recently, when tho-Plaintiff ! and Patentee, Dr. H. Goldsclniiidt, of . j Essen, Germany, obtained ah injunction j witli order for costs against H.' Chinn, of . j Adelaide, restraining infringment of- tho i patent. In a lengthy judgment in the j Patentee's favour, Mr. Justice Street . j traversed all the arguments of the De- ! fondant's counsel, and held that tho pat- . { ont was valid. j The evidence showed that this process i lias been successfully and largely used in j all parts of the world, also in many parts ■ of Australia and New Zealand (more par- i ticularly in Sydney and Adelaide) for the welding of Steel Tramway Rails, thereby , doing away with the usual Fishplates and Bolts at joints, and establishing perfect cicatrical conductivity without the aid o{ copper bonds. It has also been used with great success in tho repairing of broken parts of machinery, locomotive and steamboat frames, the rapidity with which tha repair is completed, and the machine-put back-into scrvice being a very important feature for its recommendation a'inoug Engineers. .
