The coal lumpers sprung a sudden surprise tonight when the. wholo of the men'engaged round Port Jackson refused to work overtime or before six o'clock in the morning.. This action was taken without tbe knowledge tihat tlie officials of the union were- about to sign a three years' agreement providing increased rates for overtime, regarding which negotiations had been proceeding for some time. Several colliers were unable to dis: charge, but it is hoped tho stoppage will only bo short. Possibly a settlement will bo .reached to-morrow.
