PROPOSED RAILWAY DEVIATION.
n THE WELLINGTON-.TOHNSONVILLE " INCLINE. r It is stated that the Railway authori- '" tics are considering a proposed deviation of the Jtanawatu line, with the object- or '" getting rid of the heavy and expensive le haulage between Wellington and '.Tohn- - sonville. The' alternative route, it is ;o stated, lies along .the AYellington-Hutt is section of railway as far as Korokoro Gorge, adjacent to the western boundary of Petone, and opening on to tho Hutt Koart by tho Wellington Woollen Company's works. The idea is that the line sliottld enter the gorge at this point, and then strike the hills connecting witli the Mnnawatu track .at Takapnu," which is situated on the Wellington side of Porirua. It is claimed that tho grade of tho proposed deviation would bo much easier than tho present section to ■Tohnsonvillc. According to what can be gathered,' if (he deviation is undertaken the existing line as far as Takapau would be utilised only for suburban traffic. A definite decision has not yet been come to.
