With reference to Durnan's ' offer, he told him he was perfectly willing to row, but certain expenses must be 1 .found. Durnan had not replied. He waa j prepared to defend the championship in i any part of the world, provided expenses were forthcoming. He intended to participate in the .£2OO handicap at Sydney. If rowed on Boxing Day, he would go straight to Sydney, but if rowed in Janu- j ary he would proceed to New Zealand ' by the Ruapehu. South Africa was a grand. country, and he ultimately intends to settle there.
