The tournament which will take place on the Basin Eeserve on Saturday nest, while of special interest to cadets, scouts, and boys generally, promises to> bo equally interesting to the adult pub* lie. Good entries have been received for the events open to amateur athletes, andi these alone should be a draw, while the novel side-shows, the Highland dancing, the gymnastic display, and' the military band will also help to entertain the public. Special interest should attach to the events in which the boys alone are concerned, and it would be difficult to provide a more attractive item than a display in .'juvenile marching and physical drill. The semaphore signalling, the hut-building, and the first-aid exhibitions will demonstrate some of the useful , accomplishments the rising generation is being instructed in. Of the mirth-raising, powers of the sack race nnd the .potato and bucket race it is unnecessary to : speak. Girls are catered for in skipping and aSO yards race. Mrs. S. A. Rhodes has presented a .handsome silver cup for the first-aid competition, to be competed for annually, and Mr. J. F. Atkins has presented one for the junior cadet niarching competition under similar conditions.
