At a meeting of the Primitive Metliodist Synod of Otago and Southland to-day,' the report presented showed a slight decreaso in the membership of the churches and. Sunday schools. Motions were passed welcoming tho Licensing Bill, though tho delegates affirmed their adherence to the bare majority"; also welcoming the Gaming Bill, but urging the abolition of tho bookmaker and totalisator; appealing to the British Government to put an end to the opium traffic with China; urging ministers and Sunday school superintendents to arrange special sermons and addresses on the subject of the disregard of Sabbath sanctity; and asking tho Government to legislate in the direction of giving legal status to the present visitation of ministers to the State schools under tho Nelson 6ystem for purely scriptural teaching.
