THE DREADNOUGHT PICTURE.
WHERE WILL IT HANG? The offer of Mr.. W. L. Wyllie, E.A., to present a painting of New Zealand's Dreadnought to a publio gallery in New Zealand has aroused a good deal of interest in artistic circles. There is already speculation as to which gallery will Mcure the painting. It is not the subject that will make an appeal to lovers of art, but that it will be a painting by ono who is, perhaps, the finest English painter of seascapes. Mr. Wyllie's work is noted for its breadth, colour, and life, and tho painting, even of a great grey hulk of a modern battleship, will, it may be depended on, be one of great artistic merit, and well worth a place in any gallery. Doubtless the painting will at first be exhibited in each centre, but wh«re will it finally rest? Being the Empire City an,d the centre of the Dominion, Wellington's claim cannot well be overlooked, but Wellington has no gallery worth the name, and its prospects of acquiring one seem as remote as ever. Still our little collection, rather above mediocre as to quality, would be considerably enriched by the addition of a Wyllie, and Wellington is not going to be without a. proper gallery all its days.
