VOGELTOWN RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Vogeltown Batepayers' Association was held last evening at the residence of Mr. Jackson, Krull Street. There, was ;an attendance of about forty persons, includinga good number of ladies. Mr. .6. D. Hewitt, president of the association, occupied the chair, and, in his opening remarks, stated the special business of the meeting was to discuss the clahn of the district for' a school. He briefly sketched the career of the association, which was formed some five years ago, and had rendered valuable service to the ratepayers. Their most pressing need at the present time was a school. It was estimated there are about 150 children from "Vogeltown attending the Brooklyn and Newtown Schools, and many more younger children were unable to attend owing to the distance. Mr. Jackson remarked that Vogeltown was one of the oldest established suburbs of Wellington, and had a school until ten years ago, when it was removed to Brooklyn. After a long discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Mri Jackson, to appoint a committee to canvass the district and obtain the names of. chil- J dren, and form a deputation to wait upon the Education Board. The fol-. lowing form the committee: —Mr. 6. D. Hewitt (chairman), Mesdames Johnson and Self, Messrs. Eibye, Jackson, Farley, Nelson, Drydcn, Moffett, Gressier, Marshall, and Agate. . The secretary (Mr. A. W. Wood) was instructed to obtain the necessarspapers from the Education Department for parents to fill in, and to advertise a general meeting to be held on November 15. The gathering then resolved . itself into a general meeting of the association, and the wants of the district were brought forward by <Mr. Jackson, who stated they wore without a tram service, good roads, or an adequate water supply, as well as a school. He moved that the annual meeting, (some time overdue) should be held on November 15, when an election of officers would take place. The motion was carried.
