SIR CLIFTON ROBINSON DEAD. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. New York,. November 7. Sir Clifton Robinson, Kt., managing director of tho London United Electric Tramways, died in a.New York street car.
The late Sir Clifton Robinson was perhaps tho best known tramway expert in the world. Ho was bom ill' 18-18, and at the ago of twolvo he was employed on tho staff of the late Mr. G. F. Traill, who constructed tho first tramway in Europe at Birkenhead. In tho half-century since then Sir Clifton Robinson has been closely. connected with tram why enterprises in England, America, and the Continent. At Los Angeles, California, ho constructed the pioneer system of cable and electric tramways. Ho pioneered electric traction in London, and designed and constructed the London .United Electric Tramways System. In 1902, ho was.concerned in the promotion of the great tube railway system in London, and in 1906 designed and carried into successful operation a system of through hooking between tramways and railwnys hi London.
