TUKI TUKI POWER SCHEME.
HINDERED, BUT WHY? (Dy Telegraph.-Speeial Correspondent.) Hastings, November 10. The Hastings Borough Council, at a special meeting to-day, decided to send a deputation to Wellington to forward the interests of the Tuki Tuki power scheme. The council is willing to carry out tho scheme, and only asks Parliamentary sanction. As this has, up to tho present, been refused, the deputation will now ask that the Government Engineer be sent up to investigate tho merits of the scheme. This should bo a _ simple matter, for tho Tuki Tuki River is only six miles from Hastings. There is much strong feeling locally that, if tho Government will not permit private enterprise- to develop tho country, it is certainly not justified in acting tho part of tho dog in the manger to local bodies. The deputation will consist of tho Mayor, Councillor Hart, Messrs. G. P. Donnelly, A, L. D. Eraser, and D. Whyie,
