IN THE HINEMOA VALLEY.
WHERE THE MAIL : COMES ONCE A WEEK. (Prom Our - Travelling. Correspondent.) Hinemoa! Sweet Hinemoa! I think this is _ one of. those places which have been misnamed. There is, no .connection, as far- as' I' can see, hetwedtf'the Maori maid of old and the district which now bears her name. However, Hinemoa is in tho valley of; tho Tiraumea, fifteen or sixteen miles from' Pahia'tua. It is mostly hilly sheop country. There are a few fiats near tho river which growgood rape and turnips. . This is one of the few places I know where there, is only, a- weekly . mail. ' Just' imagine' the 'task the" farmer's", have' when* they get their newspapers six in a batch! There is a.'proprietary cheese' factory at the upper . end-..0f ..the, :.valley, .owned by Mr. Checkley, and in addition to the milk. from, his own cows,-- ho - receives a supply from some half dozen other farmers. Last year the output was about twenty tons.' ';."'.; .~. Tbo Hinemoa settlers aTe desirous of having the , road continued.; up the valley, to connect with Alfredton. There is only- about a mile and' a Half to make. Ono man said to me: "We shall tave a promise of tho money next year, when the elections are coming on." The name of the-cheese factory;is i "Rahiti j ": which was : often 'used "when" people were speaking of RaetihisomO; years.,ago.
