ECHOES OF PALMERSTON SHOW.
FRIDAY'S TAKINGS. - . fßy Teleeraph.—Special Correspondent.l ■ . Palmerston,'November 7. After'a considerable amount of hustle and business during the week, Saturdaj was comparatively quiet in Palmerston, an exception, however, in this respect being at the railway station, which from early morning- up to noon was kept extremely busy with show exhibitors getting away with their stock, and visitors returning to their homes. The railway officials will not be sorry that the show is over, as they have had a very severe week of it. * .On Saturday morning all the bains were dispatched well to time, and the stationmaster, Mr. F. C. Smith, and the staff are to be congratulated on the manner in which the tremendous ■traffic has been dealt with. Friday's attendance at the show was.thought by most people to have been-a record, Tjut both in 1906 and 1908 the takings.wore larger, being .£1291 and ,£1231 respectively, as against 321202 this year.
The continued dry weather is already causing a scarcity of feed in parts of this district (says the Hastings oorTespondint of the Napier "Telegraph"), and somo sheep-farmers have had to close up their paddocks and scud their sheep to districts which have not experienced such a dry spring. Buyers from ' Palmerston North way, where feed ■is- plentiful, are taking'advantage of the rather low prices for sheep in'Hawke's Bay. ■ .
