OUTLINE OF THE BUSINESS. AND FEATURES OF REPORTS. The General Assembly of the Presbjv ,tenan Church of New Zealand meets ai Auckland to-niorrow 'evening. Tho Rev. J- H. MacKenzie, of Nelson, who was no minated Moderator a year a»o will occupy . the chair. The are the principal reports to be dealt with:State of Religion. The "State, of Religion Report" deals largely with the relation of the Church and Labour, and recites the various steps which have been taken by the American and Scottish Presbyterian Churches to promote a better understanding with labour unions and councils. Tho Evangelistic Committee ask the Assembly to °ap. point a permanent evangelist. There are two ohurch extension and home mission committees (northern and southern). The northern committee strongly urges the appointment of an agent to. supervise the work throughout the Dominion. The income for tho Church Intension Fund has been .£3520 this beiiig an increase of several hundreds over last year. Missions. The Maori Mission Committee Teports a successful year's work in the various st,v ions The Turakina Maori Girls' Boarding bchool has done well, and the agrioul?i f chool at Manamii has been fairly started. ■ . ii.^ 6 !? Mssions Committee reports that the Church has eight missioners in the New Hebrides, eight in the Canton villages, China, and four in Northern' India. The income for foreign mission purposes has been .£Blll. The Church 1 lias a training institute in Dunedin, where young women are prepared to serve as' deaconesses on foreign missions. The stuuents last year numbered nine, and the income amounted to ,£365. " Bible Classes and Sunday Schools, • T £, e .fe «re 7000 young men and women m Bible classes, and 31,630 children attending Sunday schools, being an increase of 2062 on last year. An agent is employed to travel in the interests of the work. The income for the year amounted to J3700. The Sunday schools' raised £02i7, of which .£1470 were donat"V^' 0 , 115 -' The Bible Masses raised i.U2b, of which ,£972 went-to missions. Training of Ministers. ' T J"> Theological Committee report* that there are three professors, a. number of lecturers, and a roll of twenty-sis students preparing . for the ministry.' ' A large number of university students will enter the Theological Hail during the next few years The salary paid lecturers and professors amounted to nnW t r l s °l- £2m - mi was collected for scholarships for students. Tho colleeo committee, which is responsible for the maintenance of Knox College, a building total of fifty students in residence. ..'■ ■ ' . '. Social Services.' The Dnnedm Committee reports a total of 61 children in their two omesj and that a.large number of biys lave been cared for by the a»ent work being found for them on farms and other suitable employments.
