MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) At a meting of the Masterton Racing Club last week, it was reported that the recent meeting hnd resulted in a profit of £122. Tlio secretary (Mr. Hathaway) was warmly complimented upon tho result of. the meeting. A letter was read from Richard S. Henry, of Manaia, who was disqualified for lire eleven years- ago,- in connection with an alleged ringing-in case,' asking for the removal of the disqualification. Itwas decided to obtain further information before making a recommendation. Tlio Horticultural Committee of the Mastorton A. and I'. Society has decided to recommend that donations be mad* to nil schools in the district unking exhibits at the next show. ■Mrs. Carr, wife of Mr. Patrick Catr an old resident of this district, Jio.i on Sunday afternoon after a short illness. * Tho first round of the Booth Cup, in connection with the Masterton Bowling Club, commences on Thursday, November 17. On Thursday next five teams of Masterton bowlers will proceed to Lower Hutt to try conclusions with the pick of the Hult Club. The last contest between the two clubs took place at Mnsterton, when Masterton proved victorious.
Mr. W. C. Davies, agricultural instructor of the Wellington Education Board, is co-operating with the Jlasterton A. and P. Association in offering inducements to school children to make exhibits at the opening show of the association at Solway. Competitive designs are to bo invited by the vestry of St. Matthew's Church for a new church in brick. Tho first prizo will bo .£SO, and the second prize JE2S.
' Anniversary services in connection with tho Masterton Congregational Sunday School were held on Sunday, and will bo continued this evening. The sermons on Sunday morning and evening were preached by the Rev. Mr. Hodge, and in the afternoon by the Rev. C. fl.. Olds. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a race from Frankton Junction on Saturday. The birds covered the distance (210 miles) in the fast time of shr. Dniin. The winner turned up in Mr. W. Drake's Glory, with Mr. A. Miller's Rosaline second. A fiornl fete on a large scale, in connection with St. Matthew's Church is to bo held on the Solway grounds on Thursday next. It has been decided by the vestry of St. Matthew's Church to make extensive additions to tho vicarage. When the additions are completed ,tho building will bo practically a new one.
