Whother or not the proceedings of the conference will be open, to the press is a question which will be decided when the delegates assemble tomorrow morning. The conference is an important one, and of peculiar interest from the fact that it marks the first occasion upon which a representative opinion has been sought from the pro-, fessorial boards of the colleges by the University Senate. In the past, although the opinions of the colleges wore asked for by the Senate, the colleges were asked as individual and separate institutions, and the opinions expressed were separate opinions, and, not infrequently, at variance. The idea of representative conferences has frequently been urged by the more progressive members of the professorial boards, and, by the advocates of university reform, expressed as an essential stop to reform.
