Owing to the fact that the street collection taken up last Saturday on behalf of the St. * John Ambulance Association produced less than half the amount that was collected a year ago, the association will, this'year, have to husband its financial resources. -It is not likely, however, that it will be' crippled for lack of funds to cover ordinary expenditure. Last year a sum of £100 was set aside to augment the "quarters fund." This, year no such contribution will be available. • The "quarters fund"., was. initiated about eight years ago. The idea is ultimately to build up a sum sufficient to cover the cost of a headquarters building. In this would be provided classrooms, a brigade meeting room, and accommodation for the permanent nurses attached to the association. Storage would also be provided, at the headquarters building for an ambulance van and .stocks of ambulance material. To carry this project into effect it is ' estimated that a sum of £5000 would be required.
