BOY SCOUT AND CADET TOURNAMENT.

The Basin Reserve will on next Saturday, Novembr 12, be the scene of a tournament, for which the youth comprising the companies of junior 1 and senior cadets, and troops of boy scouts are enthusiastically training. Not only are the city corps entering for the various events, hut the suburbs and neighbouring towns are also sending competitors. ' The programme is a strong and attractive one. It includes competitions, in tent-pitching, physical drill, marching, first aid, bugling, signalling, fire lighting, hut building, knotting, athletic, and novelty races. ■ A gymnastic display is to be given by Mr. HarrisonV pupils. Major Hazard, of Auckland, the inventor of the miniature rifle range, has kindly lent a range, with rifles, and ammunition complete, at no cost for the occasion. ' There will be sprints, walking, and jumping contests, ' and the. girls are provided for with skipping snd running races. Various other, attractions are promised of an entertaining character, including Highland dancing, the .baby rack (an American novelty),'side-shows, afternoon tea, etc., while the strains from the military band will enliven the proceedings.
