HUTT AND PETONE NEWs.
(From Our Special Correspondent.! fr— — HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB. At the invitation of the Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) a large number of local citizens assembled at the Municipal Buildings last evening for the purpose of assisting the Heretaunga Boating Club with their annual carnival, which is to take place on New Year/s Day, on the Pctone foreshore. A strong committee was elected, with Mr. Brocklebank as chairman, Mr. M'Donald as ecretarv, and Mr. Bedingfield as treasurer. It was resolved to canvass : both Wellington and Petone. for subscriptions and trophies. The progrraTihe for the day Is to be drawn up later. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to leave the matter of engaging the Municipal Band in the hands of the chairman and secretary. The collecting lists will be closed at the end of the month. The next meeting of the committee will.be held on December 1. ' The Petone Bowing Club offered to assist in any way possible towards assuring the success of the carnival. The secretary was instructed to endeavour to arrange for a submarine explosion on carnival day.
