CITY COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.' The fortnightly meeting of the Wellington City Council was held last evening, there being , present: The.Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.), and Councillors J. P. Luke, M.P., J. K Fitzgerald, A. H. Hindinarsh, J. Trevor, W. H. P. Barber, W. Ji Thompson, A. E. Atkinson, G. Frost, ]?. Cohen, J. Smith, W. H: Mor■rah, H, Fletcher, .D. M'Laren, M.P., and T. Cannichael. The Superintendent of Reserves was authorised to engage some additional as-, eistanee to remove gorse from Town. J3clt sections in tho occupancy of the , corporation, and to do necessary work for the protection of trees planted last year. It was decided . to" ask the electrical engineer to furnish- ■ a report as. to the. .cost of installing the "necessary lights at the To Aro Baths,' in'order to allow evening tournaments to bo held during tho sunimer. •• '■ ■ '■ . ■ Permission was granted to the children of the Wellington public schools to use the. Basin Reserve, Kclburne Park, Newtown Park, and Duppa Street Park for cricket matches. The council. also agreed! to prepare the. wickets. Tho, use of the Basin Reserve on New Tear's Day, 1911, with a right to charge for admission, was granted to tho Port Nicholson Cycling Club. The St. Patrick's Day Celebration Committee was granted the use of Newtown Park for March 18 next on similar conditions.
. Approval was given of the construction of a miniature rifle rango at Messrs, S. Luko and Co.'s brick storeroom, in Luke's Lane, subject'to conditions to .bo imposed % the" city engineer. ;
