Messrs. Dalgety -and Company, Limited, report:—We held our fortnightly sale in our Taratohi ■ yards on .Monday, when we offered a good yarding, well above adver.>i=.cd numbers, and had a very good sals. The entry was practically all of cattle, and .we had a total clearance. .Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having hold -their fortnightly sale •ini the Illastcrton yards tliis week, when 'they,' offered a good yarding of both cattle and sheep. Tho entry was well above advertised numbers, and practically a total clearance was made, although bidding and "trices were not as brisk as at previous sales. Quotations:—Hoggets, lls. 4d., 12s. 6d., 13s. 3d.,'to 14s.- ewes and lambs, 16s. 2d. to 16s. 7d.; forward empty ewes, 14s. Christchurch, Novembor 2. ■ > There was a double market at Addlngton yards • to-day in consequence of the fact that a sale will not be held next week owing to the races and show. There was a loirge attendance of the public,' and a large entry of stock of all classes. Prices were well up to that of last week.
There was an average yarding of store sheep for this Hme of: year, and it included Eevcra! lines of very finis hoggots. A pen or two of wethers in wool, a few shorn ewes with lambs at foot, and a fair proportion of shorn two-tooths and wethers. Tho sale was fair throughout, tho only classes to suffer being somo lowoonditioned ewes with inferior lambs, and one or two pens of small , low-conditioned
hoggets. Practically everything who cleared, the only exception being a coupio of lines of hoggets hi the woo!. The prices were:—Shorn four-tooth wothers, forward, 128. lid. to 13s. 6d.; nict'.iuin, to 12s:; , shorn uvo-tooth wethers, average linns, Bs. 9d. to 9s. 6d.; Bmall and inferior, 6s. 10d. to 7s. 9d.; average to' good hoggets, 12s. 6d. to Ms.; others, lls. to 125. , ; small and inferior, 9s. to 9s. 3d.; four-tooth ewes in tho wool, 13s. 9d".; aged dry crossbred owes in tho wool, 10s. Yd.; shorn two-tooth owes, 10s. 5d.; crossbred ewes, sound-mouthed, with exceptionally good iambs at foot, 10s. V'cl. to lls. 5d.; crossbred ewes, sound-mouthed, with exceptionally good lambs at foot, all counted, 10s. 7d. to 11s. 5d.; aged lowoenditioned owes with lumbs all counted, 16s. 9d.; crossbrod wethers in wool, 14s. to 165.; shorn, aged, and inferior ewes with small lambs, ss. 2d.; four and six-tooth ewes, shorn with good lambs, 10s. 3d. There was a much larger entry of fat lambs, and the duality was bettor than last week. The "yarding, which totalled 622, was not sufficient to meet requirements. Price opened at. about last week's rates, and towards the end ui tho sale showed an improvement of Is. per'head. Lighter, made from 9s. to 12s. 6d.; prime, from 13b. to: 15s. 9d.; and extra, to 16s. lid.
There was' an entry of 385 fat cattle, a considerable iiicrease on last week's yarding. They ' wero mostly of good quality, and included large consignments of beef steers from the North Island and Canterbury. The supply of big beef was in excess of demand, and prices were easier for this description. Heifers made up to last week's prices; steers realised from £7 ss. to £10; extra, to £15 10s.; heifers, £6 2s. 6d. to £10 155.;, cows, £5 17s. 6d. t<) £9 17s. 6d.; prime steer beef equalled 275. to 325. 6d.; and medium 20s. to 245. por 1001b. No inferior beef, was yarded. Vealers made from 4s. 6d. to 50s.
There was a good entry of fat pyrs, and a good sale resulted, the demand for baconers being keen. PorkerE, however, were yarded somewhat in exceES of tho demand. Prices ranged :—Baconers, 375. 6d. to 475. 6d.; heavier, 50b.' to'sßs. (equal to 43d. por lb.); porkers, 225. to 285.; heavier, 30s. to 355. (equaL.to .4id. per lb.). Stores made from Bs. to 18s., and suckers and w'eaners 4s. to 9s. '■'.■' ■" ■
There was a very largo yarding of fat sheen, the greater proportion o£ which were shorn. They wero well up to'average quality, and tho demand was brisk. Prices opened at an advance of about , 6d.' on late rates, but were slightly easi6r ' about half-way through the sale. ■' However, tho 'lading was more .spirited towards , the end, and the prices obtained wore up to the opening rates. Duncilln, November 2. At Burnside to-day 202 fat cattle were' penned. The quality was -much better than last week. Owing to the large yarding and to tho fact that several buyershad mado purchases, outside prices wero oasier. Messrs. D,algety .and Oonpany, Limited, report having held a very successful clearing sale, on account of. Mr. J. S. Peamm, at his homestead, Upper Hutt, on K- n')2r 1. ■ There was a good attendance" of buyers, and a total clearance was made at satisfactory prices.
