SCOTTISH AGRICULTURISTS.

COMMISSION VISITS AUSTRALIA. By Teleeraph—Press Associatdon-Oopyrisht. Sydney, November 1. The Lord Mayor entertained the' Scottish Agricultural Commissioners at a banquet yesterday. The Premier (Mr. M'Gowen) said:— "We want, immigration pf- the right sort to develop the interior." Ho hoped -Australia would successfully compoto with Canada regarding British imirur grants. Sir Carlaw Martin, one of the commissioners, 'in responding, said they had:been struck by the diversity Australia offered the. agricultural craftsman. It was quite evident that in Australia the forces of Nature had worked for man with extreme generosity. The commissioners had been struck by the fact that the farmer was bearing a heavy portion of the burden of the State. They had to send their wheat to tho world's markets, and wero getting the international price, but they had to pay the' Australian price—4o to 60_ per centum above the European price—for agricultural machinery. Sir Carlaw added that he hoped the result of the commissioners' report would bo to send Scotchmen to Australia instead of to other countries that were not British.. The time had arrived when they should have an organisation at Home regulating emigration,' and not allow' the country to be depleted of its best blood.
