AUSTRALIA'S AMBASSADOR.
SIR G.. REID ON BABIES AND DEBTS. By Telegraph—Presß Association—Copyright. (Rec. November 1, 9.30 p.m.) London, November 1. . In an interview published in the "Daily Express," Sir G. H. Reid, High Commissioner for Australia, stated that he had observed a reckless disregard of the great loss by. infant mortality in the large cities of the world. He would say to the people of England, "Save your babies, 'for they . are Imperial babies 1" The tide of \ emigration to-day was insufficient, and the leakage through America should be stemmed as the, colonials want all the British emigrants. The average Englishman, Sir G. Reid declared, hopelessly misunderstood Australian finance, and seemed unable to comprehend what the Australian national debt represented. He did ~ not realise that the Australian Governments were landlords expending money in developing the country, and that if they sold the railroads alone, they could wipe out all their debt. '
