NOXIOUS WEEDS. ' AN AMENDING BILL. A short Bill amending the Noxious Weeds Act was circulated last night. The most important amendment is to Section 9 of the principal Act. This required certain work in the way of trimming hedges and . clearing weeds to be done to the satisfaction of the inspector. It is amended by deleting reference to the ' inspector. The section is further amended by providing that where the occupier of land is required to trim or cut any hedges on that land, or to clear the some of noxious weeds, he shall perform those duties.'at such.times as may lie' directed by regulations, and in default of Bach regulations, then at the proper.' season of the year. Failure.to comply with a notice from the inspector to undertake work is made an offence against the Act. . The' schedule of noxious weeds is amended by inserting the. words "ragwort or ragwood (senecio jacoboea)," and including all varieties of blackberry. LAND BILL PROPOSALS. Notice has been given by Mr. • Lang to move important amendments in tho Land Bill. Ho will move in the section dealing with the acquisition of tho foe-simplo .that tho ptirchase price shall bo the original value of the land, meaning' thereby the value on which the rent reserved by the lease was computed, "pins the value <jf the one per centum per annum difference in rent between the lease-in-perpet-Bity and occupation-with-right-of-pur-Ehase systems for the period daring from 6&e issue of the lease until the complc(Eon of the purchase." Mr. Lang has also given notice to emend the clause providing for the compulsory acnuisition of settlement- lands iv -wav of lease-so as to take away the compulsory power and only enable land to'be acquired hy agreement with tho outer.
