THe market' is' said to be dcmoralised,- o\ving, : apparently, :to the compara-' tive abundance of-, supplies. ■ Europe is enjoying mild weather, and the-' autumn in:tke is being prolonged. Factors ; in New Zealand were last week mado aware, of this condition of the market,, and some dealers.' it. is alleged, tried, to, unload part of their purchases' at a small loss. Danish butter is now ouoted, at li4s. to llfis. 1 per cwt., while, a year ago, the o.notattons were 1265. to 1285.. This shows a decline of £12 per ton. . Choicest Australian' is selling at , 106b. to 108s., and a'year ago at 112s. to. 114s. . New Zealand ohoicest is making 1125..', against 117s. a year ago. Since climatic. conditions affect • supplies, the butter , market must, ever be one of uncertainty. 'It' is impossible to take the previous season as 'a' guide, because no two seasons. can be alike. If European supglies are. prolonged, tho position may easily ecomo very • serious, because larger shipments are .certain to be sent from' Australia and' Now Zealand. The- Commonwealth exports so far: show an increase, of fully 75 per : cent., and, although. 1 New Zealand may not be able to show a similar increase, the expansion will, nevertheless, bo noteworthy. With heavy supplies, the market'is bound to-sag." But one can.never be certain, because climatic conditions' may ohangp at- any time, and cause supplies • t<i suddenly , decrease.
