• » Hor Excellency Lady Islington, accompanied by Miss Cotton and Captain Shannon, A.D.C., arrived from Featherston yeßtcrday, and left for the south last evening to join his Excellency, now in residence at "Eliwvood," Christchurch, the charming homo of Mr. It. Hcaton Rhodes. The party was joined hero by Captain Makgilj Maitland, A.D.C., who will also remain in Christchurch until after Carnival Week. Mr. Eerr Clark and Lady Beatrice Kerr Clark left on a trip_ to Sydney by the Ulimaroa last evening. They intend to return about the middle of November. During Mr. Kerr Clark's absence, the duties of private secretary will bo performed by Captain Hamilton, A.D.C. Captain Scott, R.N., was entertained by a number of local scientific men at luncheon at the Wellington Club yesterday,' and left by the; Maori for Lyttelton last evening. On November 15 Dr. Percival, actingmedical officer at the Porirua Mental Hospital, joins the Maitai as ship's surgeon in the Wellington-San Francisco running. Mr. C. M. Montefiore, general manager of the Ocean Accident Insurance Company, left Wellington for Sydney last evening by the Ulimaroa. Mr. L.. J. Wild. 8.A., of Dunedin, has been appointed assistant-master at Wellington College, vice Mr. W. : H, Monaghan, who has taken Holy Orders, j : : Miss Vera'Dall, of the teaching staff j of the Wellington Girls' College, has resigned her appointement. Miss Dall intends to visit England.. At the conclusion of tlie annual meeting of the Wellington Garrison liiilo Association last evening, Lieutenant 11. W. Wilkinson (reserve of officers), who w-as largely responsible for the preparation of the programme in connection with the recent which was held in aid of the association s funds, was presented with a handsome smokers' companion as a mark of the appreciation of his efforts. Major C. D. Mackintosh made the presentation. On Thursday last a pleasing ceremony took place at Robertson's Foundry, when the employers and staff presented Mr. Mark Smith with a pair of opera glasses on the eve of his wedding. MrSmith has been employed at the foundry continuously for 33 years, except for a period of three years, when he was Engaged in work as a master butcher. He has also for many years been foreman of the foundry. . : Mr. A. Linley, of the West's Royal Pictures Proprietary, left on a visit to Sydney by the Ulimaroa; last evening, Dr. C. E. Cuwmings, the emissary of the Society of Natural Sciences, Buffalo; New York State, left; Auckland on ' Wednesday by t&o Talune for Fiji.
