RESISTED WHEN ARRESTED

Patrick Sullivan, alias Holland, pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and to a.further charge of resisting. a police officer.. Sub-Inspector Norwood stated .that, there wero 52 previous convictions against accused for various offences. On the first charge a fine of 20s. was imposed, with tho alternative of seven days' imprisonment, and on the second charge a fine of £3, with the alternative of 21 days' imprisonment. /

PETTY THEFT WHILE DRUNK

Sidney Arthur Williams was charged with .drunkenness,"with damaging a show-case,'value 55.,' the property of Berry-and Co., and with theft of. four photographs, value 18s. 6d., the property of Berry and Co. Mr. K, Kirkcalaie, on behalf of accused, entered ' a plea of guiHy to all of the charges, and askea that leniency bo extended to accused, who had a wife and family'dependent on him. WILFUL DAMAGE. S! Gari Anderson. described as a . wharf labourer, pleaded guilty to a charge that oh October'lo, at Wellington,, South, he wilfully damaged a gate and window, value 135., the 'property of May' Dodd.--Be was fined 205., and ordered to pay 13s. for', the damage done, in default soven days' imprisonment. REMANDED'FOR INQUIRY. 0 Margaret charged with drunkeuness, was remanded until November 4, in order, that certain inquiries might be made.

CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. Edgar Shaw pleaded not guilty to a charge of cruelly ill-treating a horse at Wellington on' September 14, but the evidence was against him, aiid lie was fined £3, together with Court costs, 135., witnesses', expenses £1 7s. Od., and solicitor's fee, £1 15.,, in default, 21 days', imprisonment. •• Mr. V. R. Meredith appeared for the S.P.C.A. An information against George ' Pinhock, charged with cruelly ill-treating a horse, was dismissed. George D. Stefano, on a charge 'of cruelly . ill-treating a horse, was fined £3, with' costs lis., witness's ..expenses, £1 ;ls., and solicitor's fee, £1 is., in : default, 21 days' imprisonment. A '■ charge '• of ill-treatinga horse was preferred against Edward Gregory Barrett, who was fined £3, iu default 21 days' imprisonment.

MAINTENANCE.

Ellen Hall,' for whom Mi'. Meredith appeared, was granted summary separation 'from her husband, and given custody of the children, tho defendant husband being ordered to- contribute 30s. per week maintenance, and to pay 4s. costs and £2 2s. solicitor's fee.

An adjournment till October' 31 was granted in the caso against Janies Stafford Adams for alleged failure to maintain his wife.; The case against' Edward ■Brown for disobedience- of'air' order was adjourned till December 2, . while the information ' against John Henry Warner for disobedienco of an order was dismissed, as there was no appearance of either party.

OTHER CASES.

On a. chargo of loitering in Willis Street and refusing to move on when directed to do so by a police constable, Tom Hughes was filled 10s., with costs 75., ill default 48 hours' imprisonment. For riding a bicycle after dark without a light, Georgo Reynolds was fined 55., with costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. ; For driving a vohiclo without a light between sunset and sunrise, Samuel Lawler was fined, 10s., and costs 75., with ,the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. • William Francis Homig; for failing to closo his shop at 10.30 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, was fined 205., with costs 75., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Ail information against Gilbert Henry Prico for failing to closo his shop at 1 p.m. on October 5 was withdrawn by leave of the Court. /

For driving a vohicle over a footway in contravention of the by-law, Edward Tonks and David Andrews wero fined 205., with costs lis., and solicitor's fee £1 Is., in default seven days' imprisonment. Hearing of throe charges against J. W. Easson and Co., for driving a cart across a footway; wero adjourned until November 11.

A charge against A. and T. Burt, Ltd., for employing, other than a duly licensed v wireman to carry out olectrio light work was withdrawn by leave of the Court, the City Solicitor explaining that a satisfactory explanation had been given. Similar charges', against Btilford nnd.Drowitt, and Cedorholm and Tolley woj:o also withdrawn.. . Ail adjournment till November 7 was granted "in thoX case against A," A. Mitchell for failing to erect or repair a dividing fence.,
