CHEESE.
: '. STATE EXPERT'S PEAISE. "Although I was never anxious to appear, before the public as a speaker, as one of tho judges at the dairy produco I am', pleased to inform those present that the show, of cheese, is tho best I have seen'in the district, "and that in this ro•sjlect it. is a fair representation of dairying in the■ Wairarapa,"-. said.Mr.'W. M. Singleton at the smoke concert on Wednesday night. There wore somo cheeses in the show amongst the prize-winners which were as-well made as anyone could'wish them to be. In all of the classes there was: good competition and the judges (Mi , . Grahivm judged with Mr. Singleton) were sorry that there were only three prizes to allot in each class. ■The factory managers who were exhibitiors .understood the way in which the awards were arrived at, and although nil could not'get prizes there were no managers who would not recognise that the work was dono honestly. Also, they, realised that, if. they-were not successful, it was because they had encountered. work which'was just a little better than theirs, , even though theirs may have been very good indeed. The factory managers seemed to have a-good, deal of confidence in the staff's judgment and ability to discern what each exhibit was, likely to be after it ;had become matured. In fact, a few of the exhibits seemed to be so new as' to indicate that' they.had only come out of the: presses within the last few days. To judge such cheese was, of course, .rather .difficult.. :'■ ■ . POULTRY, .Taken altogether the poultry was a moderate lot, in the opinion of the judge. Mr.' A.' J. Fisher, of Clareville, penned a lot of black leghorns, and .with, Mr. J. ' M'Causla'nd, also of' Clareville, took the prizes. Mr. W.Zabell's black orpington hen was about as good as anything in the show; ' ■•' • There were some nice ducks shown. Mr. ,;J. Billington's. black.muscovy. was a fjood bird which' has been often shown and never beaten. : " . > : - : ".'"' ,:":'■ >."■ DOGS. . - :'.'. ' The dogs , are an improvement all.; through on those shown las.t year. The sheep dogs were a strong class, and. there was .very ,'kecji- competition.
