THE FRENCH AND THE MISSIONARIES. . ' By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyriefat. Sydney, October 27. Mt. Reid, a missionary from tho New Hebrides, states that there is. considerable friction ■ between the French and British settlers in the islands, which are nnder joint Anglo-French control. Tho French, he says, dislike tho missionaries for their work in evangelising tho natives, and put obstacles in their way. They denied them the privilege of holding services on French lands. ■ Native labour is scarce, and ho accuses the French' of securing such labour by giving tho natives grog.
