• By the Warrimoo yesterday morning,, Dr. 'S. Skernian, of Martori, arrived back here after a seven months' tour. During his absence: Dr. Skerman visited- the Pacific Islands, and thence travelled across America to England and the Continent. While in. England he visited.the training camps at Aldershot. Mrs. John Gell and family are returning to Wellington by. :the Arawa after; some years' absence in the Old Country. Mr. Gell was formerly attached to the Telegraph Department, and .when offieer-in-charge at Wnkapuaka ho invented an ingenious telegraphic instrument which greatly reduced the- labour required in an office. Ho will return to New Zealand in ,about three months'. time. ,v

Word has been received from Sydney: of the death of Mr. M. Cohen, late of Wellington, which took.place on Septenibor :17 at his residence, Berry ; Sweet, North Sydney,, at. the . age of 67, ..the cause of death being heart failure. Mr. C. C. Mann, London buyer for Messrs. Archibald Clark and-Son, Ltd., London, died at Napier on Saturday. At Teneriffe, while proceeding to New Zealand by the Corinthie, he contracted ptomaine poisoning, and complications set in. In the hope of recovering ho stayed with his brother-in-law', Mr. H. A. Comford, Crown Prosecutor, of Napier, but death supervened. Deceased was a native of Auckland.
