Sir. Kerr Clark, private secretary to his-' Excellency tho Governor, and Lady Beatrice Kerr Clark, leave' on a trip to Sydney to-morrow. Mr. Korr Clark's father recently died in Now Smith' Wales.

Mr. Justice. Williams and Mrs. Williams were passengers for the south by the Mararoa last evening.

Tho Rev. F. C. Long, M.A., of To Ante, Hawko's Bay, leaves for Sydney to-mor-row en routo for Bombay where he is to enter the missionary field.

Included in the passengers to arrive by the Arawa at Wellington from London on Tuesday next are Mr. and Mrs. H. Redmayne, Dr. and Mrs. Mountaine, of AVhangarei, and Mr. J. Handyside, of Akiteo. i , Another early settler of Masterton, Mr.- Godfrey Russell, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of seventy-six years. Deceased (says bur local correspondent) came to New Zealand fifty-two years ago, and, ten years, later, started business as a builder and contractor.

: Mr. Joseph Instone, of Petono, whose retirement on superannuation, from tho railway workshops has now come into force, is an old servant of tho Department. He has been in the Government service for 37 years and was engaged for 55 years in railway work. His father was stationmaster for nearly half a century at Bridgewater, Wales, in. which town Mr. Instono was born. He came out to the Dominion in 1874 in the ship. Conflict, and has been stationed at Whaugarei, the West Coast, and for the last 12 years at Petone. He had the distinction of driving the first train to Upper Hutt. on the occasion of tho opening of the Roman Catholic Chapel there. Mr. Instone is esteemed by a large circle of friends, and was recently _tho recipient of a presentation from his fellow .employees. '~•■■ Mr. Maudsley, of the Wellington firm of Dawson and Maudsley,'intends to pay a visit to England early in the now year.
