PETONE BEACH.
THE CONTROL OF BATHING, 'r
• Larger and more up-to-date bathing • sheds are to be. provided by the Borough Council iii • place of those, at' present in. existence. ■ According to,the. Mayor. (Mr. J.' W. , M'Ewan), who brought up the, matter at last night's meeting .of the council, the : present bathing sheds 'are unsatisfactory from every point of view. His idea was to provido more substantial structures of iron, and to appoint a married caretaker, ji'lio.would be allowed to; make :a, charge of, say, Id. for the, use of tho: died. Roughly .estimated, .the. cost'would be £S? 10s. each, reduced by'' £S) for the sale of material belonging to the existing sheds. , The interest, would be M per annum, and tho upkeep'an additional M, If would bo laid down that, all .bather.s, would be compelled to use'the sheds for, dressing,"except in, the' case of those who' found :it' convenientto dress at their 1 ,, homes. This V would' bring .the., control of 'sea-bathing .more into harmony .with the systems elsewhere.; ;The council was •in ;fayour of the' idea, and resolved that pending further action, the details be' published for '" general information, and inquiries made | with, reference to the ' appointment of a care'taker. The matter will be finally dealt with at the. iieit meeting of tho council.
