TRAMCAR IN COLLISION. A horse which was drawing an express belonging to Messrs. Edward Anderson and Company, Ltd, took fright in Manners Street yesterday afternoon, and brought the express into collision with .1 tramcar. Both vehicles siistoinol' some damage, but no ona was hurt. CYCLIST INJURED. Mr. Ward, tailor, was cycling down to town from Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, when his bicycle got out of control, with the result that ho ran into a steep roadside bank. He sustained a severe cut on the head, the bone over one eyebrow*was injured, and he was rendered unconscious by concussion, Dr, Pigeon was called, and Mr. • Ward was removed to his residence. Inquiries into the circumstances of the death of Francis Einil Melson, whoso body was found alongside the railway line near Heathcote yesterday morning, jwere made this morning. As tar r.-could be ascertained, Melson was last seen alive by two men named William Whitford and Herbert Seed, who noticed him at about 9.45 pirn.' on Saturday, as he was walking towards the Lyttelton railway station, apparently" with the. intention of returning to Woolston by the 9.45 train, iAs far as is known', no. one noticed the man after that, but it is suTmised. that he. was sitting on one of '• the carriage platforms, and fell off shortly after the train left Heathcote station. An inquest was held this evening, -when a verdict-of accidental death through falling off' a train'was returned. NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH. . Nelson, October 24.' A man named Edward Hoult, a sawmiller, employed at Belgrdve, had' a narrow escape from death on Saturday. Ho was working with a bullock team dragging logs through a bush, when a tree fell pinning the man and a bullock to the ground. The bulk. of the bullock saved Hoult's life, and he escaped with a very 1 severe shaking. FALL. FROM A' MOTOR CYCLE. Nelson, October 24. Dr. Deck.fell from a motor cycle while crossing the Takaka hills to-day, and sustained a fractured leg. < THE DETECTIVES INQUIRING. Christchurch, October 24. Inquiries are being made by the detectives into tho circumstances of the death of a young woman named May Jaoobsen. It appears that she was prematurely delivered of a child, and subsequently the services of a medical man were.obtained. He ordered her removal'to the Christchurch Hospital, where-'she was admitted on" October' 15. Blood poisoning supervened, and the '■ woman' died yesterday. A report will be made to the District Coroner, who will then decide whether an inquest is necessary. DEATHS BY BURNING. Auckland, October 24. John Richards, a single man, : ;was burned to death in a whare at'Kakahi, on Sunday morning. Ho had no relatives 60 far as is known. Wairoa, October 24. A Native girl, Paeroa Whaanga, aged 10, was fatally burned at Nuhaka, on Saturday.
