MUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
. (From. Oar Special Correspondent.) The monthly meeting- of,* the Hutt NoLicense League was held in St. .Augustine's Hall, Petone, . last.'evening. A crowded house assemhled to hear Mr. H. Chisholm (organiser of No-License in New South Wales) who. was the speaker for the evening. The. chairman (the.Eev.. H. Cottom), in his opening remarks, referred to the illness of the president (Mr. A. J. Beamer) and then called upon Mr. Chisholm to address tljo meeting. Mr. .Chisholm stated that, in the Dominion Eapers, it was said that the party had ad a great defeat in New South Wales, but he would remind them that the NoLicense party knew no ,defeat., He then referred to'the tactics of "the Trade" in New South Wales; and of the amount that had been spent by them in order to win the day. He had worked Bathurst electorate against three organisers for "the Trade," and generally/the Liquor "party had worked strenuously for months before the poll. Although they claimed to have had a victory the No-License party were-, nevertheless determined now to go'to work straight away. Had there been no alliance between the Liquor and Labour parties the result would have been different. He urged all present to use their influence to obtain votes for the'eoming poll, and went on to say that he only wished that the newspapers in New South Wales were as free,as the Dominion papers.
