WELLINGTON MEN'S BROTHERHOOD.

: CHRISTIANITY AND SOCIALISM. The Wellington Men's Brotherhood held its usual 1 weekly, meeting in the King's Theatre yesterday afternoon, when Mr. J. Kershaw occupied the ohair. The president (the Eev. E. 0. Blamires) delivered an interesting address on the subjeot of Christianity and Socialism. There had been, said Mr. Blamires, a great misunderstanding between Christians and Socialists; although they stood, in common, for the uplifting of men. Socialism was really Christianity in economic guise. Many understand Socialism. It was not "the mines for the miners," or "tho farms for the labourers," tut "what is mine is man's." There was a Socialism that was opposed to science and to Christianity. Twenty-five years ago the materialistic spirit prevailed in our universities, hut to-day a very different state of affairs existed. The great teachers of to-day were mostly Christians. Man was not absolutely a victim of heredity and environment. It was evident that real Christianity ivas the highest form'of Socialism. Christ stood for the uplifting of men. He fed the hungry, cured the sick, protected fallen humanity, repulsed the wealthy and died for all mankind. "What's your's is mine," was the cry of somo. "What's mino is your's" was the Christian doctrine. Mr. Blamires concluded with a declaration of confident belief that_ tho state of would gradually improve. On Sunday next an address will be delivered at tho Brotherhood meeting by Mr. E. H. Taylor, M.P.
